Our story

Goa Green Brigade

Our journey with Goa Green Brigade started around 14 years ago, and we formally began working on the aims and objectives on May 25, 2015.

Goa Green Brigade was jointly co-founded by Avertino Miranda, Convenor, Goa Green Brigade, and Eric Pinto. Over time, the work and responsibilities settled more firmly around the environmental causes the brigade was built to fight for.

The brigade’s focus began with protecting trees, forests, and mangroves, and later expanded to hills, springs, water bodies, groundwater, air, water and noise pollution, birding sites, fish breeding areas, coastal protection, the Coastal Regulatory Zone, Khazan lands, and paddy and agricultural fields.

    Protests, petitions, and sustained pressure on local panchayats and government agencies.
  • Legal recourse
    Public Interest Litigations filed at the National Green Tribunal, Bombay High Court Bench at Goa, and the Supreme Court.
  • Grassroots work
    Tree planting, clean-up drives on beaches and river banks, and volunteer mobilisation at village level.
