Environmentalist Avertino Miranda has called for urgent legal protection for Goa’s more than 500 natural heritage springs, locally known as zorio. He warns that unchecked construction, pollution, garbage dumping and encroachment are damaging catchment areas and contaminating or drying up these vital water sources. Miranda urged the government to enact a comprehensive law protecting the springs, surrounding hills and natural reservoirs before irreversible damage occurs.
